David served as President of the Audio Visual Group, Inc., a California corporation dba AIMS Multimedia. From 1983 to 2004, David and his two brothers collectively shared the Office of the President for AIMS Multimedia. Although administrative responsibilities were shared, each had his own specific area of expertise and responsibility. David's primary responsibilities were digital technology production, management information systems, and advertising. Drawing upon his microcomputer skills, educational psychology background in learning theories, practical experience in teaching and instruction, psychotherapeutic training in systems theory and Pinchot's seminal work Intrapreneuring, David played an integral role in guiding AIMS to its leading position as both a producer and distributor of educational and training multimedia programs for schools, public libraries, colleges and universities, businesses, law enforcement agencies, health departments, and government agencies. In August 2004, David and his brothers sold AIMS Multimedia to Discovery Communications, Inc. During his tenure at AIMS, David conceived and designed (and did minor HTML editing) all AIMS Multimedia’s software (over three hundred software products) including all the interactive multimedia programs— AIMS Digital Video Interactive DVD, Science Essentials CD-ROM, Back To Basics CD-ROM, Mr. Know-It-Owl’s™ All About Animals CD-ROM, HyperStax™ interactive laser videodiscs, Software Films™, as well as AIMS’ flagship product, DigitalCurriculum™. David also designed and produced AIMS internal sales and contact management software. DigitalCurriculum was the first educational video-on-demand system and remains the defacto standard. David began conceptual design on DigitalCurriculum in 1997 and the beta was field-tested in 1999. DigitalCurriculum design, features and functionality have been copied by virtually all of the educational media companies and incorporated in various ways in their products including Unitedstreaming, PowerMediaPlus, Magic Lantern, TutorBuddy, Teachers' Domain, The Learning Source, FMG OnDemand, eLibrary, Teacher Source, ChalkwavesPlus, Media-On-Demand, QuickMind, and others. DigitalCurriculum is a curriculum-on-demand teaching and learning system that fully integrates full-length educational videos, key concept video clips, still images, Encyclopaedia Britannica content, teacher guides, lesson plans, and interactive online assessments and assignments into a comprehensive learning tool for teachers, students, and administrators with complete record-keeping and an internal messaging service. At the time of its acquisition by Discovery, DigitalCurriculum had over 100,000 educational multimedia components for every K-12 subject, state and national framework correlations, multiple bit-rate encoding for school and home use, simple incorporation of local content, and a paid subscriber base of more than 20 million teachers, librarians, administrators and students.
